It’s nice to know that New Labour have their priorities right. They forced through the law banning hunting with dogs – having wasted 700 hours of Parliamentary time – in a spasm of class envy, hatred and intolerance. Helen Clark is one of many Labour MPs content to criminalise a whole group of people she doesn’t agree with, yet, not long ago, voted for Sinn Fein MPs to remain in the House of Commons – not taking their seats – but pocketing thousands of pounds of public money in expenses. What a weird sense of what is right and wrong! Meanwhile, after eight years of Blair’s empty promises, one in three 11-year-olds leaves primary school unable to write properly, more than a million violent crimes were committed last year, tax has risen by the equivalent of £5,000 per household since 1997, 5,000 people die of infections caught in hospitals each year, and four in five failed asylum seekers are never removed from the UK. In Peterborough, our police force remains under-funded, our local hospital has lost its 3-star rating because of NHS bureaucracy, and Labour’s legacy to the city will be an ugly Category B prison, on the site where once stood a beacon of excellence that made Peterborough the great manufacturing city it was. People were prepared to give Labour the benefit of the doubt in 2001. They now realise that all they will leave behind is a story of spin, deceit and failure – at our expense.
